My Name: Colette Romatis
Team: 15 National (Assistant Coach)
This is my second year coaching at Maine Juniors, and my second year coaching with Emma Tirrell!
I touched my first volleyball in elementary school, but I started playing for real my freshman year of high school. I played on JV at Gorham high school for 2 years. I made varsity my junior and senior year of high school, and I was also honored to be a captain both years. I played club all 4 years of high school, and I played for Maine Juniors my freshman and senior year of high school. I was also a captain for my sophomore, junior, and senior year club teams. I was on 18 Gold as a senior. I am currently playing at Saint Joseph’s college in Standish, ME for Coach Roberts and Coach Tori. I am a DS/pin hitter. I am in love with this sport.
I am hoping to be a role model for younger players that want to continue playing through high school and into college. I want to make sure that my team has a lot of fun given our circumstances of being in a pandemic. We are all lucky to even have the chance to play. This is a key time to keep skills sharp. The most important thing to me is that everyone has fun!
Why I Love Coaching:
I love volleyball, and I have had some amazing coaches in my lifetime. A coach can either make or break a player’s sport. I want to help push players to be the best they can. I love seeing players improve. The look they get when they finally get a tough skill is so rewarding. I love playing volleyball, and coaching allows me to gain a different perspective than the one I get on the court.
My Day Job:
For now, I am a student at Saint Joseph’s College. During the summer I work at a summer camp doing maintenance and groundskeeping.
I was born in Newington, CT, but I have lived in Gorham, ME since kindergarten.
I love Buffalo Wild Wings and Aroma Joe’s.
Other Info To Share:
I think it’s a cool coincidence that Emma Tirrell was coached by Coach Roberts, then she coached me in high school, I now play for Coach Roberts in college, and Emma and I coach club together. Life is crazy. I enjoy making friendship bracelets, taking pictures, working out at the gym, shopping at Goodwill, getting new plants, and listening to music.
