Congratulations to Annika Hester (18 National, Falmouth HS), Maggie Murray (18 National, Yarmouth HS), Sam Spach (16 Boys, Casco Bay HS) and Olivia Smith (14 Gold, Scarborough MS) for being selected to the USA Volleyball High Performance program for 2019!
Annika was invited to the Girls Youth A1 National Training Team Program, a 5-day training program followed by competition in the USA High Performance Championships, held mid-July in Florida. As part of the Talent Transfer Initiative, Annika was also invited to the U17 A2 Beach Training Program, to be held at the end of July in Georgia.
Maggie was invited to the Girls Youth A3 National Training Program, a 5-day training program modeled after the techniques, systems and daily practices of our US National Team, held at the beginning of July in Illinois.
Sam was invited to the Boys Select A2 National Training Team Program, a 5-day training program with the country’s top athletes, held at the end of July in South Carolina.
Olivia was invited to the Girls Future Select National Skills Program, a 5-day training program for the youngest athletes in the HP pipeline, held at the beginning of July in Tennessee.
Way to go, guys!
Congratulations to Maggie Murray (18 National, Yarmouth HS) for being named to NERVA’s Women’s Junior High Performance Team for 2019! Maggie joins nine other players from the New England region in competing against all star teams from across the country at the 5-day USAV High Performance Championship in Fort Lauderdale, FL, this July! Way to go, Maggie!

About Joel Dearing: Joel Dearing coached women’s and men’s volleyball over a span of 30 years and a total of 40 seasons (Roger Williams University 1981-89), then (Springfield from 1989-2010). Dearing had a career record of 899-384, coached 10 All-Americans and his Springfield men’s team finished the 1996 season #1 and undefeated in NCAA Division III. Author of Volleyball Fundamentals (1st and 2nd ed.) and The Untold Story of William G. Morgan – Inventor of Volleyball, Dearing has been on the USA Volleyball National Faculty since 1994. He owned and operated Dearing Volleyball School, Inc. from 1991-2017, and launched Dearing Leadership, LLC. in 2018. He was honored in 2013 by the International Volleyball Hall of Fame as the Mintonette Medallion of Merit Award honoree and in 2015 was selected to the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame. He has conducted clinics in Ireland, Aruba, Argentina, China and Bermuda, and has been on the faculty at Springfield College since 1989, currently serving as Program Director of the Athletic Administration Graduate Program.
